about me.
Ava is a devoted and passionate music teacher who is accomplished in piano and vocal performance. From the singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles, to Johann Sebastian Bach, Ava enjoys all types of music. Classically trained at the piano since the age of 6, Ava has a deep appreciation for the classics such as Bach and Beethoven, and encourages her students to explore the beauty found in their music. Vocally, Ava has been singing since the age of 10 and thoroughly enjoys contemporary/musical theater styles.
Throughout high school Ava was always singing. You could find her singing in church choirs, community choirs, and at choir camps during the summers. As a pianist in high school Ava studied under Robert Greer and won first place in the Harford County Piano Festival where she performed pieces by Bach and Schubert from memory. Since then her career in music took off, and she now holds an Associates degree in Music from Harford Community College where she studied piano under Dr. Joseph Satava and voice under Shaina Vatz, and a B.S. in Music with a concentration in Education from Towson University where she studied piano under Dr. Lawrence Crawford. While studying at Towson, she was able to gain experience teaching group classes including General Music, Music Theory, and Chorus in the public school system. Also while studying at Towson, Ava had many opportunities to grow as a performer such as weekly piano master classes, recitals for voice and piano, and her senior recital at which she performed 30 minutes of memorized piano repertoire by Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and Debussy. Ava also took courses at Towson University that focused on vocal performance and pedagogy. And naturally, she was active in Towson’s choral scene and was a choir member of the Women’s Chorus and Towson’s Choral Society for multiple semesters under the direction of Dr. Arian Khaefi. These experiences have helped her become a stronger singer and performer and has also made her realize how important it is to sing tension free.
Ava encourages her students to do and try their best. She strives to establish a comfortable
and safe learning environment for all types of learners so that everyone feels respected and
appreciated. Ava meets the student where they are in their abilities and works with them so they are able to reach their own personal musical goals.
Ava has been teaching piano and voice in Harford county for 5 years. She continues to perform when able for church, wedding gigs, gigs with friends, but has recently been devoting her time to teaching and her students.
